Tech-Hub HANSA TECH-HUB ABB AZIPOD Oldendorff orders first ever electric propulsion for bulk carriers ABB announced to enter a new market segment with an order to install an Azipod electric propulsion on board two dry bulk carriers from Germany’s largest bulk carrier company Oldendorff Carriers. Two self-unloading dry cargo transshipment units will be the first bulk carriers to feature the system. Both 21,500 tdw vessels, due for delivery in 2021, will feature two 1.9MW Azipod units. ABB said it will also supply »a wide range of electric, digital and connected solutions«, including main diesel-electric power plant, generators, bow thruster motors, transformers, switchboards and the power management system for propulsion and cargo handling. Oldendorff said, the choice has reduced the investment costs »dramatically« as the vessels are already equipped with high power generation required for self-unloading/loading. The shuttle vessels must perform reliably at maximum efficiency and need to be especially maneuverable in shallow waters. CHEVON MARINE LUBRICANTS New range of gear oils Chevron Marine Lubricants introduced a new range of gear oils designed for use in industrial and marine clutched gear systems, where extreme load and shock load protection is required. The company declared, developing them was a response to customer and OEM demand for gear box oils designed to ensure optimal performance in Renk and Flender/Siemens, Reintjes and Brunvoll clutched gear boxes. As such, the gear oils carry approvals from those gearbox manufacturers. The formulation is described to be balanced to help provide both extreme pressure protection, while providing defence against yellow metal corrosion. Oils in the range are designed to offer long lubricant life, corrosion protection, good wear protection with high load carrying capacity and robust micro-pitting wear protection. Additionally, the thermal and oxidative stability is supposed to help to minimise deposit formation, prevent varnish and sludge and keep the components clean. They are available in the ISO VG 100/150/220 viscosity range and will be supplied in all Scandinavian ports. Depending on demand, supply areas could be expanded in the near future. • Drahtseile • Tauwerk • Festmacher • CASAR Bordkranseile • Anschlagmittel • Prüflasttest bis 1.000 t • Segelmacherei • Taklerei • Montage Walter Hering KG Porgesring 25 22113 Hamburg Telefon: 040 – 73 61 72 -0 eMail: info@seil-hering.de www.seil-hering.de JOTUN TankFast launched Global paints and coatings company Jotun has launched TankFast, a range of tank linings. They are described to be formulated »to allow tanks to return back to service quicker than ever before, with excellent chemical resistance capabilities in the refinery, petrochemical and chemical industry.« TankFast consists of a range of specially tailored products, such as Tankguard SF, allowing for wet-on-wet application, and Tankguard Plus, allowing for »up to 50% faster paint application and curing«. The business case is, for example, a large refinery with a capacity of 400 000 barrels per day – if that has the possibility to return tanks to operation after two days instead of a week then it can refine an additional 324 million litres of crude oil. 62 HANSA International Maritime Journal 10 | 2019
Tech-Hub BROOKES BELL T. Mariotti orders »Systema« Cosultancy firm Brookes Bell has announced a deal with luxury cruise shipyard T. Mariotti for its software Systema. It will be used in the design and assessment of the a cruise ship currently being built for Carnival to ensure the vessel’s compliance to Safe Return to Port (SRtP) regulations. »Seabourn Venture« is scheduled to launch in 2021 and has been designed for expedition travel, together with an ultra-luxury and personalised service. The software analyses ship systems following damage caused by a flooding or fire incident. Based on a full inter-system dependency model, including the geographical location of components, it assesses essential ship systems for prescribed SRtP casualty damage and identifies critical scenarios that result in system failures. The software is said to also provide manual crew actions for recovery of failed systems and includes automatic reporting. VESTDAVIT Equipment for Polar boat launch and recovery Boat launch and recovery specialist Vestdavit has secured an order to supply three new Norwegian Coast Guard vessels with davits equipped for polar conditions, in a project which also calls for installation of a deck-mounted transfer system for rapid deployment. The ships are being built by Vard Group as a new generation of search-and-rescue, surveillance, and oil recovery vessels. Each vessel will get – among other Vestdavit compinentns – one telescopic TBD-10000L davit system plus two PLR-5003KV units, built to standards for minimum availability of 330 days a year up to upper Sea State 5. The davits will be winterized for full functionality in temperatures as low as -25°C, as required in the Polar Code. The TDB -10000L is a hydraulically-operated 10 T SWL single point telescopic davit suitable for handling auxiliary boats at hoisting and lowering speeds of 40 m/min. Project specifications include a dynamic shock absorber system, a constant tension solution and hydraulic boat-guiding arms.
