Schifffahrt | Shipping Monaco Yacht Show 2019 late opening From Wednesday 25 to Saturday 28 September, the 29 th edition of MYS will showcase 125 superyachts including 16 new launches of over 70 m LOA, writes Nick Jeffery MYS’ four intensive days of »Show« probably account for less than half of the superyacht industry activity over the period. It’s outside the official show, from breakfast briefings to seminars and, of course, nocturnal happenings, where announcements are made, information is shared, »chance encounters« set up and deals sealed. Whatever complaints are thrust their way – with talk of other shows aiming to steal the No.1 slot, MYS organisers know that nothing comes close to the arena of Monaco for sheer style, glamour and concentration of wealth, including Michelin star dining – the MYS team can keep smiling. Monte Carlo Gala for the Global Ocean 2019 on the Thursday 26 th will see the Prince Albert II Foundation – which has just launched its Sustainable Yachting Network (SYN) – entertaining A-list guests (last year: Leonardo DiCaprio and Orlando Bloom). Monaco Yacht Summit will try, with the assistance of some industry names, to point those looking to buy or charter a yacht in the right direction on the eve of the show, classification society DNV GL will host a seminar with a »sustainability« theme the morning of 26 th including talks about a submarine dive to the deepest part of the ocean, additive manufacturing (3D printing) and the Water Revolution Foundation. The Superyachts book launch party takes place at the exclusive Yacht Club de Monaco the Friday night. »We have attended for 17 years – if you don’t the industry believes you are out of business – or dead!« Philippe Briand Yacht Design For those not into viewing the yachts – for which appointments should be made in advance to avoid rejection – then, within the show, listen for the ticking of some 10 mill. € worth of watches, displayed by One of the launches at MYS 2019: »Madsummer« by Lürssen © Lürssen 26 HANSA International Maritime Journal 09 | 2019

Go and touch the contours of Silverlining Furniture – a double Queen’s Award for Enterprise/Innovation British company – with their new Craftsmanship Collection. Kick a few tyres in the Car Deck, where you could pick up a Brabus converted Mercedes-Benz for less than the cost of a superyacht tender (try the Brabus’ Axopar Shadow 500 or the 48 WallyTender in MYS’ Tenders & Toys zone). Indulge in a swim or a massage in the Yacht Club de Monaco if you can get a member to invite you in for some respite from the crowded quayside, replenishing yourself for the evening functions. You might be able to combine both by calling Glancy Fawcett, a sponsor of the International Superyacht Society party on the pool deck, claiming to be planning to outfit your new boat with fine linens and tableware! Else, settle for the Upper Deck Lounge, now on two floors, or, if you qualify, the Captains & Crew (C&C) Lounge. MYS has worked hard to optimise the layout into »thematic zones to provide more fluid circulation around the quays and tents, and allow visitors to concentrate on their own sectors of interest«. Just don’t forget to look at the boats!
