Nor-Shipping Tunnel

Nor-Shipping Tunnel vision The Stadhavet Sea is the most exposed, most dangerous area along the coast of Norway. Now the country’s Coastal Administration (Kystverket) is conducting feasibility studies for the world’s first full scale ship tunnel. This would enable ships to avoid the Stadhavet Sea. The »Stad Ship Tunnel« would be 1.7 km long, 37 m high and 26.5 m wide (height between ground and ceiling 49 m, width between tunnel walls 36 m), and able to allow ships the size of Coastal Steamer, e.g. Hurtigruten vessels, to navigate more safely through the very exposed area. Total costs are estimated at 2.3 bn NOK at a construction time of approximately three to four years. The project is now embarking upon a feasibility study phase. When the feasibility study is complete it will undergo external quality assurance, phase 2. M 46 HANSA International Maritime Journal – 154. Jahrgang – 2017 – Nr. 5
