TECH-INNOVATION POWERED

TECH-INNOVATION POWERED BY VDMA - MARINE EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS German marine suppliers – trends and technologies TECH-INNOVATION powered by VDMA – Marine Equipment and Systems: This section within the HANSA magazine features brief updates on technical developments, innovations and market launches from the powerful marine equipment industry organised in its association VDMA Hauke Schlegel, Managing Director, VDMA – Marine Equipment and Systems © VDMA In unsettling times, it seems all the more important that the peaceoriented, overwhelming majority in the world stands closer together. This also includes a further intensified technological exchange, because the great challenges of the time can only be mastered in international cooperation of the most innovative parties. Of course, this is particularly true in the maritime industry, which traditionally connects people and nations, with its major challenges of climate neutrality, environmental protection and secure digitalization. These huge current tasks can only be mastered by the most innovative companies working together – our industry has long been convinced of this and is strengthening its international cooperation power. Outstanding examples of innovations in the aforementioned areas are shown by leading VDMA member companies on the following pages. The VDMA is also active in bringing companies and maritime nations closer together, for example through international trade fair participation and delegation trips. The upcoming project of a business initiation with Norway is an excellent example – you will also find interesting information about this in following article. Another important platform for this cooperation will be SMM Hamburg in September, the leading international maritime trade fair. We look forward to meeting the global industry again at SMM and strengthening our partnerships to master the big tasks together. The VDMA, Europe’s largest industrial association, represents approx. 3,300 German and European companies in the engineering and plant construction sector. VDMA – Marine Equipment and Systems represents the export-oriented maritime sector serving the global markets of shipping, shipbuilding and the offshore oil & gas industry. TECH-INNOVATION POWERED BY VDMA - MARINE EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS VDMA Maritime delegation trip to Norway The German federal government aims to support German companies in the field of digital maritime technologies in establishing business relationships in Norway. A delegation trip to Norway should give them an opportunity. On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economics and in cooperation with the supplier association VDMA Marine Equipment and Systems, the German- Norwegian Chamber of Commerce is conducting a business initiation trip to Trondheim and Oslo in Norway from 12 to 15 June. The project is part of the German foreign trade promotion programme. The maritime sector is one of Norway‘s most prominent and important economic sectors and accounts for a significant part of the country‘s value added. Changing propulsion systems, new energy sources, new communication needs and the increasing automation of ships are among the trends driving technology development. Digitalisation and automation are increasingly shaping the maritime economy through more integrated systems and automated processes on board ships. This opens up a potential field for German technology and service suppliers with a special focus on digitalisation and safety solutions. Interesting demand segments include navigation solutions, big data analytics, cloud computing, AI, assistance and autonomy systems, cyber security solutions, sensor technology, human-machine interaction and online condition monitoring of ships and maritime structures. Supporting German companies The aim of the three-day trip is to support German maritime companies in entering the Norwegian market. Individually prepared talks with potential business partners will be arranged and visits to reference projects, companies and institutions will be carried out. In addition, the German companies have the opportunity to present their products and services or possible fields of cooperation to local experts. Furthermore, the participants will receive an industry-specific target market analysis as well as additional individual compact information on the topic of competition and on important demand segments. If you are interested in taking part in the trip, please contact Hauke Schlegel by e-mail (hauke.schlegel@vdma.org).
