Maxi-panamax units registered some slight losses, narrowing the gap with rate levels for baby panamaxes in the very low 4,000’s $/day. By early/middle of December spot levels for both capesize and panamax bulkers were retreating fast. By contrast, supramax and handysize types continued to make some headway driven by good demand and limited tonnage supply mainly in the Atlantic (ECSA, US Gulf, North Europe). Market prices were stable or even slightly up, according to the Baltic Exchange’s S&P broker panel – at least for panamaxes (13.77 mill. $) and for supras (13.56 mill. $).
