Märkte | Markets ORDERS and SALES New Orders Container Quantity/Name TEU Delivery Shipyard Ordering Party 4 x 14,400 2018-19 Hyundai IRISL 1 x 1,100 2018 CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Tropical Shipping After the new building market for container vessels has been virtually inactive for over two months, a very few orders finally surfaced. The Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Line (IRISL) finalized its order of four 14,400 TEU vessels at Hyundai Heavy Industries. The neo panamax vessels are said to cost about 110 mill. $ each. Together with six 49,000 dwt MR tankers the deal marks the first order of an Iranian shipping company since the relief of the sanctions at the beginning of 2016. Furthermore, US-based Tropical Shipping declared an option on the construction of one 1,100 TEU vessel at CSSC Huangpu Wenchong. Only 71 container vessels with in total about 280,000 TEU were ordered in 2016. However, 55 of those with approximately 200,000 TEU had been contracted in the first half of the year. Since then the market has been almost inactive. Furthermore, two 1,700 type resales have been vended to Algerian interest at 13.8 mill $ each. Until the end of the year total TEU sold for demolition is expected to reach between 600,000 and 700,000 TEU. Recently prices at the Indian sub-continent were slightly slackening. However, they more or less stably oscillated slightly below 300 $ per ldt. Due to the adverse market situation it is probable that scrapping will continue at fast pace.
